will be here. good night! >>> it is happening in san francisco where a house fire has taken a life in the city's engel side district. good evening. i'm carolyn johnson. >> i'm dan ashley. firecrews are on the scene and it is happening at a home in engel side heights. abc7 news reporter ama dates is live with the latest on this. ama? >> dan, fire officials will confirm one person was found dead in the house. they will not say anything about the victim's identitiment we are are -- identity. we are a block away from the house. you can see what it looked like when we arrived on scene. it broke out about 8:40. about 40 firefighters responded, and they were able to put the fire out in 40 minutes. it burned through the garage and the second floor of the home. one person was found dead inside. now it wasn't the resident or the neighbor who called the fire in. it was an off duty firefighter who smelled smoke. >> firefighters have had good noses. they smelled like some wood was burning somewhere. they let the you are fireman know. >> reporter: and most of the damage was contained to that house on the co

either. heather ishimaru is live in daly city where the flooding is a worry there as well. heather? >> reporter: dan, this is the daly city vet that was inundated by mud a couple weeks ago. here the slide covered the road. down on highway 1 cal trans is worried about the road itself sliding away. the coast can be as beautiful as it is treacherous. heavy rains called forecloser than usual monitoring -- for closer than usual monitoring of highway 1 that is prone to rock slides and worse. in 1995 and in 2006 the hillside separated from itself and it headed for the water below calling months long closures. the locals know rain can take away their north-south route between pacifica and monterra. >> i have seen that through earthquakes and i have seen it be closed for a year. i have seen everybody get rerouted up thine 2 and down 280. it wouldn't be the first time it has happened. >> cal trans is thinking about cleaning out the storm drain. a superintendent drives the highway every day for a visual inspection. and their electronic monitors are alarm sounds in oaknd la. he commutes every

of the accident a transformer blew at the van ness muni station shutting down all subway service to the city and sent immune nye chaos and stranded thousands of passengers who didn't know what was happening. >> been here grave minutes. very painful. >>reporter: how are you feeling about this whole thing. >> very upset. it's sad what happened to the lady but very upsetting that i'm not home yet. >>reporter: bus shuttle activated but riders say those were few and far between. and totally packed with riders. >> i'm trying to figure out how to get home now frustrating. they said they'll have shuttle out i don't know what that means. >>reporter: muni told passengers to be patient. >> there's significant dray throughout the subway because nothing is running. there is no power. we are working to fix it as soon as possible. >>reporter: muni says the blown transformer possibly blamed on this weekend storm. it's working to restore power to the subway train and hopes to restore all the trains by the morning commute. meantime the victim who was struck by a trolley train is in critical condition
